FAQ: Non-Attorney Legal Document Preparer | Wedding Officiant and Coordinator

Does Susan M Signer Services provide legal services?

No, we are non-lawyers who are classified as a legal document preparer service. We are only allowed to type the information provided by you into the US Courts' approved bankruptcy forms, the Supreme Court of Florida's approved forms for divorce/adoptions/paternity packages,  and/or predesigned trusts, wills, and deeds. We cannot and will not create or modify the forms beyond the scope allowed by law.

I have legal questions about my case, can you advise me on what to do or refer me to a lawyer to help me?

We are non-lawyers and we are prohibited from giving legal advice.  Unfortunately, we cannot refer you to a specific attorney. Solicitation or advertising for a specific attorney is not allowed by law. One of the ways a consumer may find an attorney is through the Florida Bar's Online Lawyer Referral service.

Why do you need me to fill out the forms when you have the necessary information to fill out the form for me?

We understand your concern. By law, we are not allowed to fill the form out for you. Also, we are required to keep a copy of the form you fill out for us to type. In some instances, the questionnaire may fulfill the requirement.

Why do I have to provide you with so much personal information?

Susan M Signer Services requires the information in order to fill in the blanks on the forms that we prepare for you.  The information will remain private and any documents that are not required by law to retain in the files will be returned to you at your request.

I am getting a divorce and cannot afford an attorney, how can I determine which documents to choose for my case?

Regretfully, we cannot advice or give you an opinion as to what documents to choose. One of the ways a consumer may find information is by visiting the Clerk of the Court online site in the county of their jurisdiction.

I need to file bankruptcy, how do I know which chapter to file under?

As Bankruptcy Petition Preparers we are not allowed to advise or give an opinion as to which chapter you should file under. One of the ways a consumer may find information is through the US Courts online page.

How do I know whether to choose a trust or will?

We at Susan M Signer Services are not allowed to provide you with an opinion of what document is right for your situation.  The choice you make may mean you will need to Probate the estate or vest the trust. One of the ways a consumer may find information is to meet with an attorney.
